Bio

I am entirely self taught and have only been painting for the past five years. I have made a conscious effort to find my own style and method of painting, purposely avoiding the study of prescribed techniques.

This has enabled me to be drawn towards a style of painting which has been described as ethereal and mystical.  This is insightful as it mirrors my desire for my paintings to be slightly non-conformist and to mean different things to different people.

A significant inspiration, which clearly comes through from my paintings, is the alluring and captivating Devon landscape and particularly its coast.  Moreover, the sea and its changing colours and mood which, depending on light and atmosphere, have been very influential.

As my paintings have developed, I have explored more the relationship between sea and sky and how they impact on each other and how light and colours radiate and reflect between to two.  It is this development which has inspired the categories set out on this website.

Fundamentally, I believe fact can and is stranger than fiction and whilst purposely not wishing to create photographic paintings, I want to challenge the established perception of what things “should” look like.

I have been exhibiting at the Strand Art Gallery in Brixham for 3 years now and regularly paint there most weekends during the summer.  I have been humbled by the attraction of a loyal following of clients who understand the source of my inspiration.
